At the end of 1914 I was sent to take up Hospitel duty and in March 1915 was appointed Surgeon Specialist to No.2 Hospital. On June 3rd 1916 I was awarded a Military Cross for organisation work. I continued on this duty until November, 1917, when I was sent to Italy and placed in com- mand of a Reception Hospital. In October, 1918, I was transferred to Woolwich in order to found a School of War Surgery for Officers. This scheme was not carried out on account of the Armistice. Until I was disembodied on May 11th 1919, I was employed on horse classification.

(6). From May 1919 until February 1920 I was under- going instruction in Special Bacteriology at the Research Laboratory of the Royal College of Physiciens, Edinburgh, and also took a special course at the Laboratory of the Board of Agriculture, Byfleet, Surrey.
